Improv [Virtually] Like a Piano Pro!

Instructors: Jesse Fry, Rachel Yarborough, Jessica Lo

Student Age: ages 10 and up (at least one year prior piano study, or teacher recommendation)

Online Class: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:15-11:00 AM (6 classes total)

Cost: $165 per session

Choose from one of two sessions:

  • Session 1: June 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25
  • Session 2: July 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23

Description:

In this online improvisation class, students will learn to play a simple pattern that will be developed through varied rhythm, texture, and style. With each new layer of variation, a simple melodic or harmonic pattern becomes an improvisatory masterpiece! In addition to learning basic improv skills, each member of the class will record selected improvisations, which will be paired together to create a virtually unique collaborative improvisation.

Over the course of this class, students will learn a handful of contrasting improvisations and will gain the confidence to improvise on their own. As a musician, improvisation is one of the most free (fun!) forms of playing the piano. Sessions will take place on Zoom.
