Jeremy Hays joins Music Institute at Carrollton Square

The team at Music Institute at Carrollton Square is excited to announce the arrival of Jeremy Hays to our studio space starting this month! Jeremy comes to us with an extensive background in acting, singing, producing, and writing on Broadway and in television. And we are honored to have him join us on The Square -- in our very own backyard! Please take a moment to read his full bio at the end of this announcement.

JEREMY LANDON HAYS is an actor, singer, writer, and producer. His television appearances include a recurring role on "The Oath" (Sony Crackle), “Bull” (CBS), “FBI” (CBS), "Broad City" (Comedy Central), "The Blacklist" (NBC) "Turn: Washington Spies" (AMC) and the soon to be released Scott Rudin film Compliance for FX starring Mary Louise Parker. Jeremy is also set to appear in a new independent film Sometime Other Than Now starring Kate Walsh, Donal Logue, and Amy Hargreaves. Jeremy recently played the role of Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. He made his Broadway debut in the first revival of Les Misérables and went on to originate the role of Enjolras for the 25th Anniversary production at Paper Mill Playhouse and the subsequent national tour. He performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival as a soloist in Play It Again, Marvin a musical review of the music of Marvin Hamlisch. He toured the U.S. as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats. Regionally he has starred in productions of Into the Woods, Hair, Camelot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Oklahoma! and West Side Story. Jeremy is proud to have represented Les Misérables on "The 85th Annual Academy Awards" hosted by Seth MacFarlane as well as NBC's "America's Got Talent." 


Jeremy is producing a new Broadway play Paulette by novelist, Mary Adkins (When You Read This). The play is currently in development in New York City.


Jeremy has penned the book to Everything in the Dim Light, a new Broadway musical currently in development with music and lyrics by The Bones, adapted from the Thomas Hardy novel Far from the Madding Crowd.


Jeremy has also written two television pilots. Buried Deep is a modern western drama series set in rural Oklahoma. Take the Black is a comedic, mockumentary series about a down-on-their-luck band of cater waiters who have been recruited by the CIA. 


Jeremy also founded the non-profit, non-partisan organization Broadway Votes which promotes voter registration and political involvement in the Broadway community. @jlandonhays

Recital Video Recording Guidelines and Instructions

Dear Parents:

The recital is only a week away! I can hardly believe it!! Remind your students to keep practicing consistently -- every day if possible -- to get their piece into tip top shape. I also am constantly reminding my own kids to make sure they are practicing the details according to the assignment sheet that their teacher has given them. This is so important because those details are usually the prioritized goals for putting the finishing touches on a performance.

Please read this email carefully. Since this recital is going to be all virtual there are a number of details that you'll want to know in order to get videos submitted smoothly. 

Rehearsals: at home OR in studio DEC 8 and Dec 10
In a normal covid free world, we would have held a dress rehearsal at our recital venue the day prior to the recital. But since we're not having an in person recital, the dress rehearsal simply will entail the process of recording a performance video. That "dress rehearsal" video will be used for the recital. You will choose one of two two options for recording the video and submitting it.

Recording options
1) Record your video at home following the guidelines provided below. Submit the video via the link provided no later than Thursday Dec. 9. I will be sending a google form that will allow video uploads on Monday of next week. The form will allow you to submit your student's performance video.
2) Signup for a 15 minute slot at the Music Institute via Signup Genius. In this time you will be able to record again and again until you are happy with your recording. The recording will then be submitted for the recital performance. The studio slots will be open on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm or Friday from 4:00-6:00 pm. Important: If you record in studio, please dress in appropriate recital dress for your session! Follow the recital recording guidelines as listed below.

If you do not sign up to record in the studio, then please make sure your video is turned in by THURSDAY, DEC 9! We must have all videos in on time in order to have them ordered and processed for the Zoom recital. I also would recommend that students not record their performance video before their final partner lesson next week. Have the partner lesson first just in case the teacher has any last minute feedback or advice for the final performance.

  1. Please dress in recital appropriate clothing when you record your video "Sunday Best"
  2. Position the recording device as demonstrated in attached video example:
    • distanced from piano to include full length view of student and piano
    • space for student to take a bow before and after they perform
    • side profile to replicate an actual recital performance as much as possible
**please note that video demonstrations here do not reflect appropriate recital dress

RECITAL DAY DEC 12, 10:30 - 11:00 - 11:30 am
Students will be assigned to one of the three recital times above. Please make sure you know when your student is performing. This specific recital time will be shared later today. Each recital time will have a Zoom link that you can share with friends and family. We will also provide PDF programs of the recital so that you can follow along and know who is playing through the recital.

Hello!! I hope that everyone is off to a good start with their lessons this week. I just wanted to give you a couple valuable pieces of information regarding our teaching schedule this year. 

42 LESSONS beginning August 17

Now that we've entered the school year lesson plan, all students under this plan will receive 35 scheduled weekly lessons throughout the school year. In addition 7 summer lessons will be scheduled flexibly between the teacher and student family. I have made an easy reference chart that is found on the website under Lessons in the menu. This will help you see when lessons occur and when they don't occur. We generally follow a the CFBISD calendar for holidays, and we do have a rather long break slated in our calendar over the December holidays. Please look at the calendar and become familiar, and then bookmark it so that you can come back to it at any time. 

Additionally, you may sync to the studio calendar using the Student or Parent Portal. The entire lesson count is inputed on the studio calendar. 

Student Portal and Parent Portal

We would like to have our teachers make use of the portal for their students. Either you can access the student portal through your parent portal login (using parent email address), or we can create a secondary portal login using the student's email address. Would you please take a minute to reply and let me know which email you'd prefer to use for portal login in conjunction with weekly lessons: parent email or student email. We do not have any student emails on file, so if that is your preference, please share the student email address when you reply. 

Invoicing and Payment Schedule 

♪Timely payments are appreciated♪

Email invoice notifications are sent on the 25th of each month. Payments are due on the 1st of each month and may be received through the 7th of the month. Payments received after the 7th will be subject to a late fee of $30. The operation of the studio depends on all payments to be made during the first seven days of the month. When they are late it puts a hardship on the studio to make sure that teachers are paid and that bills are paid. In the event that you know you will not be able to make an on time payment in any given month, we would appreciate you reaching out and keeping an open line of communication! Student Events

We have some fun ideas in the works for students this year, including Zoom practice performances (student get togethers), practice incentives, and more! We will also have a student pickup in the coming weeks so that we can distribute lesson binders, theory books, and any other books that your teacher may have for you.
